(3) Landslide disasters

A landslide is a rapid mass movement of soil. It is caused by a slope that has been weakened by a typhoon, torrential rain, an earthquake(s), or melting snow. A landslide is more likely to occur when it rains heavily during the rainy season and when a typhoon hits. Rainfall of 20mm or more per hour, or 100mm or more since it started to rain increases the danger of a landslide disaster. Those who live on sloping ground or along mountains or valleys need to exercise caution.
