(5) How to receive information about a disaster

To prevent being affected by weather-related disasters, listen carefully to cautions, warnings, and weather information announced by the Meteorological Agency. The agency announces information every day. It is a good idea to obtain the latest information. It is available on the radio, TV, and the Internet. In the case of a typhoon or heavy rainfall, you will receive information on what is going to happen from the weather forecast on the radio or TV.

1.Receive "caution"/"warning" information from the radio or TV

A "Caution" is issued when there is a possibility of a disaster. A "warning" is issued when there is a possibility of a serious disaster. A warning requires more serious attention, however, it does not mean that you can take a caution lightly. Always pay attention to the weather information on the radio or TV and prepare for natural disasters.

2.Receive information from local authorities

When a disaster such as a storm, flood or earthquake occur or is likely to occur, many municipalities use outdoor speakers to inform residents of the conditions of the disaster or to advise them to evacuate. Pay attention to disaster information from local authorities as well as the radio and TV.

気象災害の予防のためには、まずは気象庁が発表する注意報・警報・気象情報を積極的に聞きましょう。これらは日々発表され、テレビ・ラジオ・インターネットでも伝えていますので、常に最新の情報を取り入れるようにしたいものです。 また、台風や豪雨の場合、おおむね、テレビやラジオの天気予報などによって危険の接近を知ることができます。

1.ラジオ・テレビで「注意報」・「警報」情報を入手

「注意報」は災害のおそれがあるときに、「警報」は重大な災害が起こるおそれがあるときに発表されます。警報の方がより警戒が必要な事態ということですが、注意報だから平気ということではありません。常にテレビ・ラジオなどの気象情報に注意し、自然災害に備えるようにしておきましょう。

2.町からの情報を入手

風水害や地震などの災害が発生、または発生するおそれがあるときなどは、多くの市区町村では、広報用の屋外スピーカーなどにより、住民に災害の発生状況を伝えたり、避難の呼びかけなどをします。テレビやラジオとともに、町からの災害情報にも注意しましょう。
